'The Blacklist' season 3 spoilers, news: Will Ressler be able to protect Liz? Red to get help from Aram and Samar
"The Blacklist" has been off the air for more than a month now and fans have been patiently waiting for the show's third season to resume. The good news is that the popular crime drama is just a few days away and by all accounts, Raymond Reddington will be back in a big way.
In the midseason finale, which was aired way back in November, fans saw Special Agent Donald Ressler (Diego Klattenhoff) finally cornering his elusive colleague, Elizabeth Keen (Megan Boone). While Ressler was bound by his job's mandate to capture Liz, the trailer for the show's midseason premiere shows that he's also looking out for her.
The clip starts with Ressler assuring Liz that she will get a fair hearing, but she tells him they both know she won't make it there alive. The ex-FBI agent is then seen being transferred to a glass holding cell; ironically, it's the same one that was used to hold Red (James Spader) in season 1. Ressler promises her that he'll keep her safe. Unfortunately, the well-meaning agent might not be able to keep that promise.
Red tells Ressler on the phone that the Cabal will be coming for her and that if they reach her, that would be the end for Liz. His narration is accompanied by scenes of the Director (David Strathairn) headed towards Liz, Mr. Solomon (Edi Gathegi) aiming a gun at someone, Tom (Ryan Eggold) crouched low as he's being shot at, Red in a cemetery and Aram (Amir Arison) pointing a gun at someone. The trailer ends with Liz collapsing.
Incidentally, "The Director" is the title of episodes 9 and 10 and according to showrunner Jon Bokenkamp, they are crucial in establishing Liz's fate. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Bokenkamp said that Liz's capture might be a victory for Ressler's task force, but it puts her in a very vulnerable state.
But the producer assured viewers that Red has a great plan for saving Liz and that they would finally be seeing his strategy – which he had been laying down since episode 2 -- come together. And Red might be getting help from Samar (Mozhan Marno) and Aram.
According to the synopsis posted on Carter Matt, Red and Amar will be taking bold measures to ensure that Liz is safe. The midseason premiere has been teased as a big episode for Amar and that he'll have some great scenes with Red.
As for Samar, Bokenkamp hinted that she might be seen teaming up with Red. Fans may recall that Ressler had kicked Samar out of the team for betraying the FBI and this will make it possible for her to team up with Red.
"The Blacklist" season 3 is set to return on Jan. 7, 2016.
