Tom (Eric Dane) and Sasha (Bridget Regan) will continue their romance in the upcoming season of "The Last Ship."

Showrunner Steven Kane recently told TV Line that Sasha would be back in the new installment. She and Tom started their romance last season, with the intel officer providing support to the latter during his difficult moments. Although Tom has left the Navy, fans can expect that his relationship with Sasha will continue, especially now that the TNT series has been renewed. 

Meanwhile, Tom has officially resigned from his post on the USS Nathan James and said goodbye to his crew. His decision came after a harrowing experience. His kids were kidnapped by Allison Shaw (Elisabeth Rohm). Tom's father was killed in the process, as well as a beloved friend and colleague.

Tex (John Pyper-Ferguson) was one of the casualties in the war. He died after urging Tom to not give in to his urge to kill Allison. He was able to convince the captain, but he got shot in the crossfire. When the captain saw Tex dying, he snapped and ended the villain's life.

In the end, Tom and his crew came out victorious, but Tom has been scarred for life. He decided to quit, making fans worry about what will happen to him next in the series. Will he start to lead a civilian life?

In his TV Line interview, Kane said it has always been their plan to give Tom the heaviest burden out of all the characters. From being the "the most famous man in the world," Dane's character went on a perilous journey that made him realize he was just human, like anyone else. The captain has always been portrayed as a strong person, someone who reaches out to help others. This time around though, he was the one at the receiving end and it was not an experience he particularly liked.

"We gave a lot of closure in the season, a lot of things are wrapped up and there's basically a happy ending, so we thought it'd be great to sort of leave Chandler in a place where you wonder, 'Where's he going to be next time you see him, when we come back for Season 4? And can he ever get back that feeling he had that allowed him to stay this rock for everybody for three seasons?'" the EP explained.

"The Last Ship" season 4 is expected to start airing in June 2017.
