'The Maze Runner 3' release date: Production resumes February in time for January 2018 launch

(Facebook/MazeRunnerMovie)"The Maze Runner: The Death Cure" will resume filming in February 2017.

By now, almost everyone knows about the unfortunate accident that actor Dylan O'Brien went through earlier this year. The incident led to a production delay and a subsequent postponement of the release date of "The Maze Runner: The Death Cure." But it looks like things are back on track again as the film is set to resume filming in February, perhaps making it in time for the intended January 2018 release.

O'Brien suffered many injuries after an accident on the set of the third "Maze Runner" film, which resulted in his hospitalization. The production of the sequel was put on an indefinite pause and, for a while, it looked like that was it. Then came the announcement that the film would start back up again on May 9. The date came and went, but the production was still at a halt. The release date was then postponed from Feb. 17, 2017 to Jan. 12, 2018.

Now, it certainly seems like O'Brien has recuperated quite well as Deadline reports that "Maze Runner 3" is scheduled to restart shooting in February. And apart from the filming location, nothing has been changed.

It was previously reported that O'Brien was spotted out and about in Sherman Oaks, California. One lucky fan was even able to meet him and take a photo with the "Teen Wolf" actor. His road to recovery has been a long and arduous one, but the actor definitely looked all better. As for the rumors on his planned lawsuit against Fox, nothing has been confirmed yet.

"The Maze Runner: The Death Cure" is the third and final installment in the young adult film franchise. Unlike its two predecessors, the film will reportedly diverge from the plot of its source material, particularly changing the ending. It has been reported that many fans were not too keen on how the third book closed, so this could be a driving force in the decision to switch it up.
