'The Shannara Chronicles' season 2 release date, cast news: When will MTV air the season 2 premiere?

MTV announced the renewal of the fan favorite "The Shannara Chronicles" for season 2, but the network remains mum about the show's official release date.
The season renewal was revealed on April 20, 2016, over a month after the airing of the season 1 finale. But up to know, the details about the second installment of the fantasy drama remain under wraps.
Since the network premiered "The Shannara Chronicles" season 1 in January 2016, fans were hoping to see the return of the series in the same month this year. But since January is almost over, it might be impossible to expect the premiere episode of season 2 to air in early 2017.
The network is also relatively silent about the cast for season 2, but fans are expecting to see the return of Wil Ohmsford (Austin Butler), Amberle Elessedil (Poppy Drayton), Eretria (Ivana Baquero), Allanon (Manu Bennett), and Ander Elessedil (Aaron Jakubenko) next season.
Meanwhile, Terry Brooks, author of the book from which the series is based on, hinted about the plot of the upcoming season in an interview with SciFi Now back in August 2016. The author of "The Sword of Shannara" trilogy revealed that the second season will not feature a time jump to cater to the events in the third and final book titled "The Wishsong of Shannara."
Brooks revealed that he initially thought that the series will move on from the plot of season 1 after its finale to make way for the story written on the next book in the upcoming season. "But of course MTV said, 'Are you crazy? We're building fan support for these actors, we can't boot them out of there and bring all-new people in!' And I said, 'Well, they could be the same characters, just the children or whatever...' that didn't work," the author stated.
MTV is expected to drop more details about "The Shannara Chronicles" season 2 in the coming days.
