The finale of "The Vampire Diaries" season seven led fans to focus mainly on Damon and Enzo's plight into the evil side, but some may have forgotten that a ray of hope for some characters was also shed in that sad episode.

While Damon (Ian Somerhalder) and Enzo (Michael Malarkey) continue their journey of murdering innocent souls, Caroline (Candice King) and Stefan (Paul Wesley) seemed to have patched things up for the better.

Movie News Guide notes that recent spoilers hint on a possible happy ending for the star-crossed lovers who seem to have their love halted every now and then. In the season seven finale, fans were treated to a few moments of sweet and unforgettable fantasies that seem to tease a "Steroline" ending in season eight.

In an interview with TV Line last month, executive producer Julie Plec explained more about what fans should expect of Caroline and Stefan once the eighth season premieres. "I'd really like to see Caroline and Stefan enjoy some of that comfort for as long as we can eek it out, before they have to stumble across another obstacle."

Plec added that Damon and Enzo's stint with the evil that took hold of them in the previous episode will actually play a role in Stefan and Caroline's romance. "Well, Stefan's really going to need her [Caroline]...He's very determined to get Damon back on track, and it's not going to be an easy task. He's going to need someone there for moral support," she said.

Meanwhile, it is also speculated that Bonnie (Kat Graham) will see some shady days in the upcoming installment. She is convinced that Damon and Enzo fell into darkness because of their combined efforts in saving her.

On the other hand, there is the possibility that Bonnie will regain her powers and she will be the one to save both men this time. HOF Mag suggests that in case Bonnie won't be able to save the two most important men in her life, she might end up getting Enzo out of the curse and Damon will have to be awakened to reality by someone else.

"The Vampire Diaries" season eight is slated for premiere on Friday, October 21, 2016 at 8:00 PM ET on The CW.
