'Tokyo Ghoul' season 3 release date reportedly pushed back to 2017

The third season of "Tokyo Ghoul" might not be released for a while and recent rumors even suggest that fans may have to wait until next year to see it.

Prior to the recent rumblings about the latest season of the anime supposedly being given a 2017 premiere date, the belief was that the show would make its return later this year.

Some of the people behind the show, including FUNimation president and CEO Gen Fukunaga, also indicated that the third season would indeed be released this year, but that no longer appears to be the case.

The reason for the apparent delay hasn't been made clear, though rumors have indicated that the lack of available source material is supposedly playing a role in it.

Some fans were already irked with what they saw in season 2 when they believed that the "Tokyo Ghoul" anime was unnecessarily deviating from its source material.

Given how unfavorable those reactions were, it wouldn't be too surprising to learn that the show's creators have decided to stay more faithful to the source content for the upcoming third season.

There may also be a chance that the third season of the anime is not made altogether.

Some of the fans who were unhappy with the show's second season have already made it known that they would rather see a full reboot than a continuation of the series.

One particular petition on ipetitions.com is calling for a reboot of the show, and it also cites plot and character issues as reasons for why another attempt at adapting the manga is necessary.

The aforementioned petition has already amassed over 3100 signatures, though it's still unclear if the people behind the anime will take notice of it.

More news about "Tokyo Ghoul" and its third season should be made available later on this year.
