Bad news for those who were expecting Chris Pratt to play Nathan Drake, the lead character in Naughty Dog's 'Uncharted' game-turned-movie, as the 'Guardians of the Galaxy' actor reportedly passed up on the role.

"Sony still needs to find its leading man for the film before it can move forward. Mark Wahlberg had been attached but eventually moved on. More recently, the studio made an offer to Chris Pratt, but he passed," Tatiana Siegel of The Hollywood Reporter wrote.

Sony began development and conceptualization of the film adaptation in 2008, but has since struggled to put the puzzle pieces together.

A number of writers have been tapped to layout the storyline, including Joshua Oppenheimer and Thomas Dean Donnelly (Sahara), David Russell (Silver Linings Playbook) and David Guggenheim (Safe House).

At one point, husband and wife tandem Marianne and Cormac Wibberley of 'National Treasure' fame were hired to re-write the script of the Uncharted movie. Until just recently, Sony has allegedly signed Oscar-winning writer Mark Boal ('The Hurt Locker' and 'Zero Dark Thirty').

With Boal onboard, the company is hopeful that narratives and plot in Uncharted will be ready just in time for the commencement of filiming in early 2015.

Back in July, Sony confirmed that the Uncharted movie will hit cinemas on a June, 2016 release date, a block previously occupied by 'Amazing Spider Man 3,' until it was rescheduled to a later play date.

Seth Gordon (Horrible Bosses) is confirmed to direct the film.

Pratt rose to superstardom when he took on the role of Peter Quill/Star Lord in the mega hit 'Guardians of the Galaxy.' However, Anna Faris' husband has got his hands full with TV series 'Parks and Recreation,' as well as the upcoming 'Jurassic World.'

To date, the Uncharted video game franchise has sold more than 17 million copies worldwide. The latest installment, Uncharted 3, was well-received by both gamers and media pundits.
