'Will and Grace' revival latest updates, release date: NBC orders a 10-episode revival for the hit TV series

(NBC)"Will and Grace" will return with a revival

NBC has reportedly ordered 10 episodes for the "Will and Grace" revival that is believed to happen in July this year. The award-winning TV series, which starred Eric McCormack as Will Truman and Debra Messing as Grace Adler, started in September 1998 and lasted for eight seasons before it concluded in May 2006.

McCormack and Messing reunited with their two other co-stars Megan Mullally and Sean Hayes a few months back for a surprising 10-minute mini episode that was posted on YouTube. The election-themed reunion was initiated by the show's creators, Max Mutchnick and David Kohn. The said video was viewed more than 6.5 million times since September, according to sources, and may have been the reason that prompted NBC to do a revival more than 10 years since the TV series last aired on the small screen.

"Yeah, we're talking about it. NBC love it. They didn't even know what we were doing with that 10-minute YouTube video," the 53-year-old McCormack said in a statement. But when they found out about it, they were very gracious and said, 'We love it. Go ahead and do it.' And when they saw the response to it, they did come and say, 'What about doing a limited return?' So we're in discussions for that at the moment, and the four of us would love for that to happen. That would be great."

"Now there are platforms where you can do six or 10 episodes. I don't believe we would ever come back to network TV again," Messing said in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter. "I think that the logistics of all of our lives — there would just be way too many things to hammer out. But for something shorter-lived and maybe having the limitations of being on network TV lifted may give us a fun, fresh opportunity because we could be really, really naughty!"

When the revival premieres on the small screen in the middle of this year, some original cast members will not be part of it any longer as veteran actress Debbie Reynolds recently passed away. Reynolds played Grace's mother during the show's eight-season run.

The comedy series follows the lives of best friends Will, a gay lawyer, and Grace, a dedicated interior designer. It was the first primetime TV show that had a gay male lead. "Will and Grace" won 16 Emmy Awards and had a total of 83 nominations. All four of the show's stars have won an award for their performances on the show. The comedy series was the highest-rated TV show from 2001 to 2005 among viewers with ages ranging from 18 to 49 years old.
