The X-Men are almost always up against something that threatens humanity's existence, whether it is another mutant or a government conspiracy. In "X-Men: Apocalypse," the superhero team will be going up against their most formidable enemy, Apocalypse.

Apocalypse is considered the first mutant in comic book canon and he has caused some of the most challenging dilemmas Charles Xavier's students have ever faced. So fans were quite excited to learn that the next "X-Men" movie was finally about him. But when "Entertainment Weekly" released several stills from the movie, the reactions to director Bryan Singer's version of Apocalypse can be described as mild at best and vitriolic at worst.

One photo, which showed Storm (Alexandra Shipp) standing with Apocalypse (Oscar Isaac) and Psylocke (Olivia Munn), had fans reacting strongly to how different the 5,000-year-old mutant was from the comic book. While Apocalypse is massive, grey-skinned and menacing in the comic, the movie version is smaller and a bit on the purple side.

Twitter users quickly made their feelings known, tweeting their disappointment and poking fun at the fact that the character looked more like Ivan Ooze, the "Power Rangers" villain.

But Apocalypse was not the only character that fans were complaining about. Most fans seemed happy that the movie followed Psylocke's costume from the comics, while others said that it was not an appropriate get-up for fighting. There was also a lot of discontent regarding Storm's light complexion.

"EW" also included photos of Cyclops, (Tye Sheridan), Jean Grey (Sophie Turner), Jubilee (Lana Condor) and Nightcrawler (Kodi Smit-Mcphee).

"X-Men: Apocalypse" will reportedly wrap up this run of the franchise and move towards a new direction. The story is apparently set 10 years after the events of "X-Men: Days of Future Past" and Apocalypse is trying to get Magneto to join him.

While resisting at first, he eventually becomes one of the four Horsemen, along with Angel (Ben Hardy) Psylocke and Storm. With that threat in the horizon, Raven/Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence) and Charles (James McAvoy) combine forces to try and stop them.
