2017 Hyundai Elantra revealed; compact sedan gets a sharp redesign and new tech interiors

Hyundai had announced that they would be giving the sixth-generation Hyundai Elantra a complete redesign. The 2017 Hyundai Elantra is scheduled to debut during the 2015 Los Angeles Auto Show, to be held from Nov. 17 to 29. The compact sedan is scheduled for international release by early 2016.
However, in the automaker's home country, Korea, the vehicle has already debuted and is set to be released later this year. In Korea, the 2017 Elantra is being released as the Hyundai Avante. It has been said that despite the difference in name, the vehicles will more or less be the same.
Based on its Korean debut, the sixth-generation compact sedan has been redesigned to feature a sharper and sturdier exterior. It now has a more squared and angled design. The front end also has a hexagonal grille, consistent with other Hyundai vehicles. The headlights are narrower but wider. The re-design also includes a side crease located just about the door handles. The angle of the roof and trunk also give the compact sedan a hatchback-like appearance.
While the 2017 Hyundai Elantra is said to have undergone a complete redesign, the vehicle now looks similar to other Hyundai vehicles, including the Genesis.
In terms of dimensions, the Elantra's wheelbase has been kept the same, but it is 0.8 of an inch longer, an inch wider and 0.4 of an inch lower. This will translate to more legroom inside the car.
Driving dynamics has been improved through the high-strength steel base and an improved suspension system. Acoustic glass and insulation were also used to limit the car's noise.
According to Car And Driver, the 2017 Elantra will also come with three engine choices. The engine choices include a 1.6-liter direct-injected four cylinder with up to 130 horsepower and 119 lb-ft torque; and a 2.0 Atkinson-cycle four engine with up to 147 horsepower and 132 lb-ft torque. The third engine option, a 1.6-liter diesel, is not likely to become available in the U.S.
In Korea, there are also three choices for transmission, a six-speed manual, a six-speed automatic and a seven-speed dual-clutch (for the diesel engine).
The car's interiors feature a horizontal dashboard with a display screen in the center. The car also features new tech features. The Hyundai 2017 Elantra is now armed with security aids including forward-collision warning with automatic braking, blind-spot warning, rear-cross-traffic alert and automatic dimming high-beams.
The car also has a proximity key that can unlock doors or pop the trunk, whenever the driver is near. The driver's seat also has a memory function that is able to remember the driver's seat preferences.
More details about the U.S. version of the vehicle will be coming in the next few weeks. The vehicle may also carry a price tag of about $18,000.
The 2017 Hyundai Elantra is slated to debut in November and become available for consumers by early 2016.
