Chicago Bulls trade rumors 2016: Kings' DeMarcus Cousins still the main goal?

It looks like no matter what happens, the Chicago Bulls' most coveted trade target is the Sacramento Kings' DeMarcus Cousins. But a deal for him entails huge sacrifice and it may even require saying goodbye to franchise star Jimmy Butler.

In a potential swap, for the Bulls to add Cousins, they could be letting go of Butler together with Taj Gibson and Jerian Grant. But aside from the All-Star center, they are also getting the veteran Matt Barnes from Sacramento.

Giving up Gibson and Grant might be an easy task for the Bulls, but it is a different story when it comes to Butler.

Since the 2014-15 season, Butler has been the face of the franchise and is the best scorer for the Bulls - making him harder to deal away. However, it is not impossible for them and that was proven in this year's off-season.

Ahead of the 2016-17 National Basketball Association season, there were rumors that Butler was on the market. The team that was believed to have the best chance of landing him was the Boston Celtics.

For a moment, it seemed the C's were close to completing a deal for Butler. But in the end, nothing happened.

Now, the Bulls may finally trade Butler if in return they succeed in getting Cousins.

Cousins, arguably the best center in the NBA today, could transform Chicago into a championship contender. Setting the off-court and personal issues aside, the 26-year-old is a player who can carry a franchise to success if surrounded with enough help.

There are no worries for the Bulls when it comes to the shooting guard position if Butler leaves. Dwyane Wade was inked in the off-season and is so far fitting in well with his hometown squad.

As of the moment, this is just a proposal. Butler continues to prove his worth to the Bulls and he might be labeled as an untouchable soon.
