'Constantine' season 2 news: Show may have been cancelled but Matt Ryan's character is alive and well in 'Arrow'

"Constantine" was officially cancelled after airing only one season on NBC. The show centered on DC Comics character John Constantine (Matt Ryan), a demon hunter who atones for his past sins by protecting innocent lives from supernatural threats. The show was cancelled last May and was not picked up by other television networks.
Ryan took to his Twitter to reveal the news, saying, "Sad news. Thank you #Hellblazers for your support u truly r the best, and thank you to everyone involved in the show. Memories made forever. Very disappointed that we are not continuing this journey, will miss playing john. You guys never gave up, I thank you all #Constantine."
Fortunately for Ryan and fans of Constantine, the CW has decided to bring back his character and integrate it into the current season of "Arrow."
Co-showrunner Marc Guggenheim said, "We are thrilled to have Matt Ryan reprise the role of John Constantine on an upcoming episode of 'Arrow.' Matt is an incredibly talented actor and his portrayal of this beloved character was always something we admired."
Ryan will reprise his role in the fifth episode of the show titled "Haunted." With the introduction of magic and mysticism in season 4 of "Arrow," the producers will be able to introduce Constantine into The CW's DC universe.
Constantine's storyline will be tied to the resurrection of Sara Lance (Caity Lotz).
Sara will return to "Arrow" as the White Canary after having been killed back in season 3. Lotz's character will eventually move on to The CW's newest show, "Legends of Tomorrow."
Executive producer Wendy Mericle revealed, "We knew Sara was coming back ... she needed to be resurrected, and even in the world of the comic books, he's the guy to do it."
At this point, Ryan is only expected to appear in one episode of "Arrow." Hopefully, with the support of fans, his involvement as Constantine can last for a few more episodes.
The next episode of "Arrow" season 4 will air on Oct. 14 at 8 p.m. on The CW.
