The "Rise of Iron" DLC for the hit first-person shooter game from Bungie, "Destiny," is coming to consoles this September.

After numerous leaks and rumors about the DLC, Bungie officially announced that it will be released on Sept. 20 exclusively on current generation consoles PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The game expansion will also need the base game, as well as other previous DLCs - The Dark Below, House of Wolves, and The Taken King – to run.

"Rise of Iron is an exciting addition to the Destiny universe," Pete Parsons, Bungie CEO said. "We are continually blown away and inspired by the growing Destiny community's energy and enthusiasm."

"Rise of Iron" is considered to be much bigger compared to the earlier DLCs. It will bring new areas for players to explore. The expansion will introduce The Plaguelands and Felwinter Peak. The Wall, which is the original game's starting area, has also been revamped into a fresh sight for players to revisit.

The upcoming DLC also offers new and updated strikes, new raids, conducts more patrols and brings additional public events. Crucible maps and other features have been added as well.

In "Rise of Iron," Guardians accept and face challenges to become a new generation of Iron Lords. Along their journey, they will ally with a Golden Age legend to put a stop to the looming evil threat.

"Destiny: Rise of Iron" will launch at $30. As mentioned, the expansion will only be playable in Xbox One and PS4 exclusively. The developer has also explained that those who are playing "Destiny" using legacy consoles, Xbox 360 and PS3, will need to upgrade to the latest console to experience the new DLC.

The 2016 Electronic Entertainment Expo kicks off tomorrow and Bungie confirmed that more details about "Rise of Iron" DLC will be dropped. E3 will run from June 14 to 16 in Los Angeles, California.
