'Fast and Furious 8' cast update, news: Mia not returning; Brian could appear in future sequels

(Fast and Furious)Roman Pearce, portrayed by actor Tyrese Gibson, will be the man behind the orange Lamborghini in the movie "Fast 8."

Filming for "Fast 8" has wrapped up, and actress Jordana Brewster, who plays Mia Toretto, revealed she is not part of the sequel. In the meantime, brothers of the late actor Paul Walker revealed that there are plans to bring Brian back in future installments.

The cast members of the "Fast and Furious" franchise are known to be like family on and off screen. Friendship and family have always been a central theme in the franchise. Brewster plays the younger sister of Dom (Vin Diesel) and the wife of Brian and, despite the events in the previous installment, many still expect Mia to be part of "Fast 8."

In an interview with Kevin McCarthy, the actress was asked if she is finished working on the movie, and she said, "They are done, yes." Surprised with the answer, the interviewer asked for clarification, and she said, "I'm not in it so we'll see."

The news was met with disappointment from many of the fans who feel that the movie will not be complete without her. There are two more installments planned and Diesel may have been planning to bring her back in the future sequels all along.

Brian and Mia decided to leave the group's operation to concentrate on their growing family. Fans of the show know that the plot was affected by the untimely death of Paul while filming was in progress. It would make sense if Mia will not be around for the eighth film.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Paul's brothers, Caleb and Cody, talked about how it was filling in for Paul to finish his scenes in the seventh film. Caleb also revealed that he received a phone call from Diesel asking if it "would be acceptable to maybe bring Paul's character back… to really kind of let his fans know he's still out there."

In other words, Diesel, who also serves as the movies' producer, is asking for the family's blessing. "Universal wants to make sure to be respectful of Paul and his image too, and his family," Cody added. When Brian does make an appearance, then fans could expect to see Mia and their kids with him.

"Fast 8" is slated to be shown on Apr. 12, 2017.
