'Gotham' season 3 episode 9 spoilers: Commissioner Barnes becomes The Executioner

(Facebook/GOTHAMonFOX)Gotham's new mayor struggles with his promise to keep the city safe.

FOX's hit DC TV series "Gotham" just keeps on getting more exciting and intense as its season 3 moves forward this week with a brand new episode that will fully outline the arrival of Captain Nathaniel Barnes' (Michael Chiklis) vindictive alter-ego, the Executioner.

According to the spoiler reports for episode 9 titled "Mad City: The Executioner," Captain Barnes finally succumbed to the darkness residing within him. His struggle with the force started when he got infected by the blood of Alice Tetch (Naian Gonzalez Norvind) in one of the previous episodes of this season.

With the intention to get rid of Gotham City's worst, the troubled Barnes started prowling the streets, killing criminals along his path. He eventually embraced the fact that he now becomes the judge, jury and executioner at the same time.

Cinema Blend pointed out the similarity of Barnes' the Executioner to that of a villain in the Batman animated series villain called "The Judge." Like the more famous Harvey Dent aka Two Face, their sense of justice directly comes opposite to that of the Dark Knight's who would often prefer the baddies to be locked up rather than be killed.

In the upcoming segment of "Gotham," the partners Gordon (Ben McKenzie) and Bullock (Donal Logue) will follow on the investigation of the numerous deaths at Lee (Morena Baccarin) and Mario's (James Carpinello) engagement party.

Check out the rest of the synopsis of the episode posted over at The Futon Critic.

"Gordon and Bullock become suspicious of Barnes, and comb through evidence of the murder at Lee and Mario's engagement party. Nygma goes to Penguin when he hasn't heard from Isabella (guest star Chelsea Spack). Meanwhile, Ivy reveals her identity to Selina and Bruce, but quickly leads them to trouble."

A batch of promo images shared at Flickering Myth meanwhile highlights Bruce (David Mazouz) and Selina Kyle (Camren Bicondova) working together on a case.

"Gotham" season 3 airs Mondays at 8 p.m. on FOX.
