The much awaited seventh installment in the popular "Gran Turismo" racing game franchise is finally happening and developer Polyphony Digital has released the possible timeframe for the launch — sometime 2017. As for its beta, recent reports have suggested that it could go live as early as next year and it will be different from the recently announced game, "Gran Turismo Sports."

During the Paris Games Week last month, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe's President and CEO Jim Ryan clarified some confusion between the upcoming "Gran Turismo 7" and the recent "Gran Turismo Sports."

According to Eurogamer, "GT Sports" is a collaborative title in partnership with the racing federation FIA (Federation Internationale de l'Automobile) while "Gran Turismo 7" will be a standalone game from Polyphony Digital. Furthermore, Ryan also reiterated that "GT Sports" will not act as a prologue to the game series.

Meanwhile, "Gran Turismo 7" is definitely in development status and developer Kazunori Yamauchi has revealed that the beta will most likely take place sometime next year, according to the report from Gameranx late last month.

Moreover, Gameranx added on their report that "Gran Turismo 7" has already been in the development phase for quite some time now and Ryan has high hopes that Yamauchi will be able to deliver the title on the expected time period.

In terms of features for the game, the possibility of a PlayStation VR support is the only feature that has been mentioned so far. Shuhei Yoshida, Sony' President of Worldwide Studios, revealed earlier last month that the company is now on the trial testing phase for the headset's compatibility to different genres and racing games is one of the ideal candidates for it.

Unfortunately, nothing much has been added since then and the only thing fans can do now is to wait for further updates from Sony and developer Polyphonic Digital. "Gran Turismo 7"  is expected to land on the company's current-gen console PlayStation 4.
