The fifth season of "Grimm" returned from its winter hiatus to a darker and more dangerous Portland and to Nick coming face to face with his past.

The midseason premiere, aptly titled "Eve of Destruction," finally revealed more about the new player in town – Eve (Bitsie Tulloch). But it was not all about the Hexenbeist - super soldier wearing Juliette's face, the episode also revealed more about the Black Claw and the seeming end of the Wesen Council.

Unfortunately, even though a Wesen uprising is on the horizon, Nick (David Giuntoli) is still a Portland detective and there are still crimes to solve. A synopsis for episode 8 points to Nick and his partner Hank (Russell Hornsby) investigating reports that a local legend might be connected to the death of a tourist. The Grimm will also reportedly discover how serious the Wesen uprising is when he's taken into the base of operations of a secret government agency fighting the Black Claw.

A trailer for the upcoming episode shows more of Portland's mysterious local legend. The sneak peek starts off with a voice over saying a "deadly monster lurks in the deep" as a small canoe with two people are shown. Something appears to be circling the boat and a man is seen being pulled under water. Viewers were also treated to a glimpse of a Wesen that appears to have fins on top of his head.

The clip also showed Meisner (Damien Puckler) talking to Nick and informing him that they need his help. The detective seems to be considering it as there's a shot of him being led into a room where a wide range of guns are shown. The clip ends with the previously shown Wesen slowly submerging himself under water.

A Loch Ness monster type of Wesen has been teased the past few months and this appears to be the episode. This could be an interesting development and a good distraction from all the world changing ramifications of the Black Claw's insurrection.

While it's good to see a new type of Wesen being introduced, fans are no doubt wondering how Nick will balance his work as a detective with his responsibility as a Grimm.

Episode 8 of "Grimm" season 5 will be aired on NBC on Feb. 5.
