"Disney Infinity," the action-adventure sandbox game from Disney Interactive, could potentially be included in the list of games that are supported by Microsoft's HoloLens.

During an interview with Engadget, VP of production at Disney Interactive John Vignocchi said that the company is more interested in Augmented Reality than VR. "We've had multiple meetings and discussions with Oculus, multiple meetings and discussions with Sony about Morpheus, multiple meetings and discussions with Microsoft about HoloLens. We're very interested in that space." Vignocchi also added, "There's the socialization problem right now with VR, but augmented reality is very exciting."

Social interaction online is currently the hurdle VR headsets is facing, as mentioned on Engadget.

Microsoft's panel at E3, showcased the social aspect of the HoloLens while playing the popular open-world game "Minecraft." The success of the demonstration, which showed the integration of the social aspect of the device, is why Disney Interactive is considering Augmented Reality over VR.

Disney Interactive head, John Blackburn also said that the company's main objective is for families to play the game together and make precious memories from it—which he was not able see from the Virtual Reality headsets.

Blackburn told Engadgets, "The idea of kind of creating that family memory and playing it together is really core to the experience we're trying to build. And so when you put a lot of these headsets on, it's almost isolating in a way. Until we can get over that piece of the technology, it's not as interesting to me."

Although it is not a confirmation that they will in fact go with the Augmented Reality, it clearly showed that they they are currently more interested in the Microsoft HoloLens than the Oculus Rift or Sony's Project Morpheus because of the gadget's social functionality.

Microsoft HoloLens' release date

Microsoft still has not announced any specific release date for the AR device. However, in a hands-on review from IGN, it was stated that the headset "looks refined and close to what you'd expect from a final retail product, sturdy and sleek." With that said, it seems like it would not be too long before Micorsoft will release the headset. As what Christian Today said on their report, the gadget is most likely to be released sometime next year, hopefully early 2016.
