'House of Cards' season 5 spoilers, rumors: Claire to kill Frank

(Facebook/House of Cards)Will Frank Underwood die in "House of Cards" season 5?

As of this writing, it still remains unknown when "House of Cards" will return for its season 5. However, rumors claiming that Frank Underwood (Kevin Spacey) will die in the upcoming season of the Netflix series are becoming more and more persistent. If rumors are to be believed, Frank's death may even be carried out by Claire (Robin Wright).

To the uninitiated, "House of Cards" season 4 ends with Frank Underwood wanting to be reelected as the President of the United States (POTUS) while his wife, Claire, is gunning for the second highest political seat. The latest in the rumor mill is that Claire may not be content holding the vice presidential seat only, hence, she will have Frank Underwood assassinated so that she will eventually become the POTUS.

Apart from Claire, there are also other suspects on who might carry out Frank's demise. In an interview with The Wrap, "House of Cards" cast member Mahershala Ali, who plays the role of Remy Danton on the series, opines that, in the event that Frank is really to be killed on "House of Cards," it would be interesting to showcase him dying in the hands of someone close to him.

"Like, maybe, at some point, because he's the one closest to him, my guess would be Stamper (Michael Kelly)," said Ali.

While there is no questioning that Stamper killing Frank will provide an interesting twist to the story, Kelly, though, believes that his character will never be the cause of Frank's demise.

"You've never seen Doug turn on Frank. We've never seen Frank turn on Doug. And they trust each other to the ends of the Earth so that's where Doug belongs. That's where he is. That's where he thrives in life," Kelly said in an interview with CNN last month.

However, in another interview, Kelly acknowledged the fact that radical changes happen on "House of Cards." With Frank's worsening health, there is, indeed, that possibility for the character to be killed off without Stamper or Claire lifting a finger.

"I feel like any big changes that have happened on the show, it's always well-warranted or well-deserved, that the audience will get it. They might have to wait longer than on your typical TV show, but they will bring you back," Kelly told Deadline in August.

"House of Cards" season 5 is expected to arrive on Netflix early 2017.
