iPhone 7S release date, specs rumors: edge-to-edge display and home button

Apple is struggling to match Samsung in terms of sales this year. Additionally, it appears that the company is going to have a tough year ahead with very little design changes arriving with the upcoming iPhone 7 lineup. However, there are rumors that next year's iPhone 7s is going to come with bigger changes including an edge-to-edge display.

Websites have been reporting on the rumors about the iPhone 7s for some time now. However, the latest rumors indicate that the iPhone 7s may buck the trend followed by Apple over several years, and come with big design changes next year to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the smartphone's release. Among the big changes being rumored is a bezel-less display. This particular rumor emerged when John Gruber, an Apple blogger, announced it during a podcast. He went on to state that the top and bottom bezels of the phone will be removed and its front will consist mainly of the display.

Importantly, if the phone comes with a display covering the front, the Touch ID button will have to be removed. However, Gruber states that Apple is planning to shift the button and the fingerprint scanner under the display. Along with the button and the scanner, the front-facing camera will also find a place within the display.

This could result in the whole iPhone 7s to shrink in size or the size of the display to increase to cover the front of the phone. Whichever option is chosen by Apple, the removal of the bezels is going to create a device with a unique form factor. Samsung is already bringing out curved screen devices so it is not surprising if Apple decides to try out a new design for the iPhone 7s lineup. Importantly, this rumor lines up with others that indicate that Apple has already placed orders for AMOLED screens with Samsung that will be used on the iPhone 7s. Using AMOLED screens will also bring a lot of advantages to the iPhone 7s, including less drain on the battery, resulting in longer battery life.
