Loyal viewers of "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" are not the only ones enraged at Olivia Benson's ouster from the team, Fin is understandably furious and will do anything to get her back.

The previous episode saw the SVU team engaged in a sting operation involving underage Catholic school girls. It's later revealed that this particular sex ring has public officials for clients and that Internal Affairs officer Ed Tucker (Robert John Burke) might be involved. Benson's (Mariska Hargitay) relationship with Tucker causes her dismissal from the case and her transfer to another department.

Benson's replacement is none other than Sergeant Dodds (Andy Karl), a move that doesn't sit well with Detectives Rollins (Kelli Giddish), Carisi (Peter Scanavino), and Fin (Ice-T). "Law & Order: SVU" showrunner Warren Leight explains to The Hollywood Reporter that Rollin's animosity toward Dodds (and other male authority figures) stems from her time in Atlanta. It also doesn't help that Dodd's father is the police's Deputy Chief, so his taking over Benson's post smacks of old boy politics.

As for Fin, Leight told Entertainment Weekly that the detective was on vacation when Olivia's ouster went down. So when he returns to find his friend gone and Dodds in his place, he understandably goes ballistic.

Benson might be out of the SVU now, but fans are hoping that it won't be forever. The second of this two-part story arc is set to be aired and will hopefully end with a favorable resolution for the lieutenant.

A synopsis for episode 18, aptly titled "Unholiest Alliance," reveals that with one of their own accused of a cover-up, "the SVU struggles to unravel a sex trafficking operation deeply-rooted in government offices, the police department, and the Catholic Church."

Viewers will no doubt feel a certain familiarity to the subject, as it's one that has made headlines for years. This was certainly emphasized in the episode's trailer, which starts with photos of young girls, presumably the sex ring's victims. A priest is seen praying, followed by a shot of a press conference spearheaded by another member of the priesthood. Benson tells the priest that "other girls are in danger." A shot showing two high-ranking priests watching from a car underscores the power of the organization, while a woman in the hospital provides a glimpse of the victim. The clip ends with one priest handcuffed and arrested, while a car is seen being rammed off the road.

It's safe to say that it's an uphill battle for the SVU team, but hopefully it's one they can win.

"Law & Order: SVU" season 17 will return to NBC on March 23.
