'Law & Order: SVU' season 17 episode sees Olivia Benson looking for Noah; new case involving a missing girl hits Sgt. Dodds hard in episode 8, 'Melancholy Pursuit'

Lieutenant Olivia Benson has seen a lot of horrible things in her time at the Special Victims Unit, so no one ever thought she would also be experiencing something as unexpected and chilling as her baby missing. The latest episode of "Law & Order: SVU" season 17 will also deal with another missing person. But the pursuit to find the missing girl takes a serious toll on Sgt. Dodds.

It would appear that there are two sets of missing children in episode eight of "Law & Order: SVU." A teaser clip from the episode, titled "Melancholy Pursuit," shows Lieutenant Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay) at the park with baby Noah. She's talking with another person when she glances back and notices that Noah is missing. A visibly panicked Benson is seen calling out to him and running, with her gun drawn.

Meanwhile, a "Carter Matt" synopsis for the upcoming episode states that the other members of the Special Victims Unit (SVU) are also on the hunt to find a missing girl. But the case starts to take an unforeseen emotional toll on Sgt. Mike Dodds (Andy Karl).

While the SVU team has dealt with some pretty depressing and disturbing cases in its 17 seasons, this particular episode is noteworthy because it appears to be focusing on the team's newest member, the still relatively unknown Sgt. Dodds.

The officer is a new addition to the unit and so far, the only back story that viewers know of him is that he's the son of the unit's Deputy Chief, William Dodds (Peter Gallagher). The Deputy Chief was a major team player in the previous season and was the one who placed Mike in the team after Benson was promoted. His connection to the high ranking official could be the reason why the young man appears determined to prove himself.

Unfortunately for the younger Dodds, the team handles the most challenging and heart breaking cases. It would be interesting to see if Sgt. Dodds would survive his time in the special victims unit and if he would be changed by it.

Episode eight of "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" season 17 is set to air on Nov. 11
