The New Mexico film office has confirmed that "Longmire" season 5 will film in the area.

Santa Fe New Mexican reported of this confirmation, but the exact start date of filming has not been announced. The report only mentioned that filming is imminent.

Actor Lou Diamond Phillips has previously posted on his Twitter page that the filming starts on March 23, and on Tuesday, he backed this up with another Twitter post confirming the start of production. "IT'S ON! #Longmire Season 5 officially kicks off!" the actor wrote.

With filming underway, it is speculated that season 5 will premiere at around the same time as season 4, which was in September. So it's likely that fans will get to see their favorite characters soon.

As for the plot, no one has a pretty clear idea on what will go down in season 5 of the Netflix series but most reports state that the new season will pick up where the show left off –which is Walt (Robert Taylor) having a romantic moment with Dr. Monaghan (Ally Walker) and this was cut short when an intruder broke into Walt's home.

There are several suspects for the break-in, considering Walt has made a lot of enemies being Sheriff. Walker Browning, played by Callum Keith Rennie, is on top of the list of suspects, as he was arrested by the Sheriff.

But as usual, it has not been confirmed, but the new season is expected to reveal the identity of this mysterious intruder and who he is connected with. Speculations are also rife that Dr. Monaghan may be involved with the suspect, but this too, needs confirmation.

While Dr. Monaghan may be Walt's current love interest, there are also rumors that he and Vic (Katee Sackhoff) might have a relationship in the future. A photo of the two characters was uploaded on the show's Facebook page and it somehow hinted the possibility of their budding relationship.
