Los Angeles Clippers trade rumors 2016: No star leaving with BG-CP3 connection best in years

Doc Rivers' goal of keeping the Los Angeles Clippers' core intact is likely happening as the duo of Chris Paul and Blake Griffin appears stronger than ever early in the 2016-17 NBA season.

In the off-season, there were thoughts that Rivers' desire would be unrealistic for a number of reasons and most of them revolved on Griffin. Among these were the 27-year-old's rumored gap with Paul and the opt-out clause in his existing contract.

However, Paul recently spoke highly of his relationship with Griffin which is a great sign for Rivers and the Clippers.

"Oh, no question (it's) better now than ever," Paul said last week, according to a report from USA TODAY.

Paul continued, "Like I'm saying, we both have matured so much, and our communication is amazing right now, so sometimes it takes time. That's what (happened) with me and BG, and there's nothing like it right now. We are having some of the most fun that we've had in our time together."

It is hard to argue with Paul because the Clippers are the best team in the Western Conference and the entire league as of the moment.

The Clippers currently own a 14-2 record and are streaking as they racked four consecutive victories.

If the success in the present campaign continues for Lob City, it is expected that Rivers' plan of keeping the core will be achieved.

Griffin and Paul are proving that their tandem can carry the Clippers to new heights. It is unlikely for them to break it up now since they have a legitimate chance to reach the Finals with the way things are going for them.

Together with last season's finalists - the champion Cleveland Cavaliers and runner-up Golden State Warriors - the Clippers are labeled as title favorites. This is huge since there are high expectations they must live up to.
