Microsoft recently unveiled its budget priced Lumia 550 with its costlier siblings and it was clear that the company wanted the device to rival the Moto G3. This is how these two devices fare in a comparison.
Both these smartphones are made from plastic; however, the Moto G3 has a band with a metallic sheen running along its edge. Also, the device from Motorola can be customized on its Moto Maker website where customers can choose from 10 differently colored plastic back panels and 10 accents. Additionally, it has an IPX7 certification and can remain submerged in one meter of water for 30 minutes. Compared to this, the Lumia 550 has a plastic body which comes in two colors: white and black. Its back panel has a glossy finish and it cannot be swapped out with alternate versions. Finally, the smartphone from Microsoft is smaller, and lighter than its competitor.
There is a 4.7 inch capacitive screen on the Lumia 550 and it has a resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels and density of 315 pixels per inch. On the Moto G3 there is a 5 inch LCD screen with a resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels and density of 294 pixels per inch.
Here the Moto G3 is ahead as it has a better Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 chipset, coupled with a CPU with four Cortex-A53 cores clocked at 1.4 GHz along with an Adreno 306 GPU. The Lumia 550 meanwhile has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 210 chipset that is coupled with a CPU with four Cortex-A7 cores clocked at 1.1 GHz and an Adreno 304 GPU.
Each of these devices has a memory slot and on the Moto G3 it can support up to 32 GB of external storage while the Lumia 550 supports up to 200 GB. As for RAM, the device from Motorola comes with 1 GB RAM on its 8 GB model while its 16 GB model has 2 GB. Coming to the Lumia 550 it has 1 GB RAM.
There is a 13 megapixel camera on the rear of the Moto G3 while the Lumia 550 has a 5 megapixel version.
When it comes to the price, the Lumia 550 is the cheaper device, and it costs $139 unlocked while the Moto G3 with 1 GB RAM has a price tag of $179.
