Microsoft Surface Pro 5 release date, specs rumors: Device to run on Kaby Lake processors

(Microsoft Official)Microsoft Surface Pro 5 is said to be unveiled in spring next year to refresh the Microsoft Surface Pro 4 model (pictured).

After it was initially thought that Microsoft would unveil its Surface Pro 5 later this month, it seems that those who are anticipating the device may need to extend their patience a little further as it may not be the case.

According to reports, Microsoft has shaved off the price tags of its Surface Pro 3 and 4, enabling the consumers to save as much as $200 upon purchase. With Microsoft indicating that the Windows 10 Anniversary Update is coming this month, many thought that the Surface Pro 5 reveal is at hand.

According to an exclusive report of Mobi Picker, though, the highly anticipated Surface Pro 5 may be launched in spring next year. The technology website claims that their sources from China have revealed that Surface 5 will, indeed, run on Intel's Kaby Lake processors, which was the earlier rumor. With these seventh-generation processors, the device can be expected to consume lesser power, making its battery last longer.

Apart from boasting of Intel's Kaby Lake processors, according to Mobi Picker's sources, Surface Pro 5 will also be packed with 16 GB of RAM, making multitasking much easier for the user of the device. However, not all of the units of the Surface 5 will come with 16 GB of RAM as Microsoft is also expected to release units with lesser RAM at a much lower price, of course.

It is also alleged that Surface Pro 5 will not have a uniform 4K resolution screen. Reportedly, buyers will be offered an option as they can go for the 4K screen resolution, if they are willing to pay the price. However, those who are not really crazy about high-screen resolutions may opt for a lesser number, at a lower price of course.

Mobi Picker further reports that Surface Pro 5 will be packed with the new NVIDIA Pascal or AMD Polaris GPUs and Windows 10 Redstone 2.

Surface Pro 5 is alleged to come with a starting price of $899 for its i5 variant. Its top-level i7 Extreme variant, on the other hand, is said to carry a $1,599 price tag.
