'Mortal Kombat X' news: Xbox 360 and PS3 versions cancelled by WB Games

With Sony's PlayStation 4 and Microsoft's Xbox One slowly taking over the video game console arena, more and more games are being cancelled for the older platforms, specifically the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. The latest game to meet its death for the old consoles is a popular fighting title.
Publisher, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, officially announced that the PS3 and Xbox 360 will no longer have "Mortal Kombat X." According to its community blog admin, Yorick, they are sorry to not have been able to deliver what was promised to owners of older video game consoles. The reason behind the cancellation is that developers have not been able to create a game that is at least on par with the PS4 and Xbox One versions.
"After months of development, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment has come to the regrettable conclusion that we cannot release Mortal Kombat X for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Please know our teams worked diligently to meet the quality standards set by the current-gen versions of the game," wrote Yorick.
Though disappointing, the news probably wasn't much of a surprise. "Mortal Kombat X" for PS3 and 360 was expected to hit stores mid-2015. It was then moved to late 2015, but no exact release date has been announced.
What happens to those who pre-ordered the game then? Yorick advised those gamers to just go back to the retail stores where they pre-ordered the game from, as they are eligible for a full refund.
The game is developed by NetherRealm Studios. It is the 10th game in the "Mortal Kombat" video franchise. Like all of its predecessors, gameplay involves two players — player one versus player two or player versus CPU — battling it out in several arenas. Each player uses characters with various attacks and abilities.
The PS4, Xbox One, and PC versions of the "Mortal Kombat X" were released earlier this year on April 14.
