Fans saw Jess (Zooey Deschanel) back on "The New Girl" season 5 when she returned from jury duty in last week's episode "Goosebumps Walkaway." Prior to Jess' return, fans saw Megan Fox's guest appearances in five episodes as Reagan, who became Nick's (Jake Johnson) new love interest.
However, last week, viewers bid goodbye to Fox's character as Jess makes her return; but is it really what fans wanted?
When Fox stepped in to fill in for Deschanel's absence while the latter is out on maternity leave, fans doubted that the "Transformers" actress would succeed in a sitcom. She proved them wrong, though, and even won the hearts of viewers. Now that she's made her exit, some are wondering if Reagan would have made a much better character than Jess.
According to Refinery 29, Jess' return may have made everyone happy, but it appears that the rest of the cast was fine without her the whole time. This also suggests that "New Girl" would be better if Jess is not in the picture. At the moment, Fox may have left the show but there may be hope in bringing her back for future episodes.
After all, it was executive producer Brett Baer who hinted that Reagan might come back in a different arc since she spices things up not only for Jess and Nick but for everyone else.
Meanwhile, now that Jess is back, "New Girl" will start focusing on CeCe's (Hannah Simone) upcoming wedding. Jess will also be helping her best friend move into the loft and be with the rest of the group in the upcoming episode 11 of the TV series.
CeCe and Schmidt's (Max Greenfield) wedding may also be the venue where Jess and Reagan will be in the same room. According to a spoiler report from TVLine, word has it that there's a big possibility that Reagan will attend the wedding, which should also mean that Fox will be part of season 5's finale.
While Fox's return still has to be confirmed, one thing's certain: a lot of people loved her on the show.
"New Girl" season 5 airs every Tuesday at 8 p.m. EDT on FOX.
