With clamshell phones going out of fashion, they have dropped out of the marketplace altogether. Instead, the smartphone market is now dominated by devices that all have an appearance of a stick, or when they are badly built, a brick. However, all this could change soon as one particular clamshell phone has been spotted passing through TENAA.

The latest clamshell offering to make the news is the Phillips V800 and GSMArena states that is appears to be close to being released. Importantly, it was seen passing through the Chinese certification site, TENAA, which acts as the wireless regulator in the country. This is a clear indication that the Phillips V800 flip phone will be releasing in the country and possibly then roll out to other regions within Asia. Asia is not surprisingly still one of the regions where there is a demand for clamshell phones which prompted Samsung to release a brand new offering last year.

As for the latest offering from Phillips, it has been dubbed the V800 as this is name that was revealed in the TENAA listing. Other information revealed in the listing included its specifications and news that phone will be an entry level device with 2 GB RAM. Coming to the display on the device, the listing revealed that there would be two 3.7-inch TFT versions and one would be positioned on the inside and another on the outside. Resolution on each of these displays would be 720p. In terms of cameras, there would be two onboard with the main one being a 13-megapixel version and the one placed on the interior for selfies would be a 5-megapixel version.

Even as news about the Phillips V800 was making the rounds, PhonesReview stated that the Gionee W909 clamshell phone was also spotted making its way through the TENAA site almost simultaneously and these two could be hitting the market soon.
