Niantic has finally released the elusive and the highly sought-after shiny Magikarp in its ongoing "Water Festival" event for "Pokemon GO." However, before this rare "Pokemon GO" character can be caught, players are advised to update their game first, whether it is in an Android or iOS device.

There is no denying that the shiny Magikarp is considered as a collector's item by "Pokemon GO" players. According to reports, the odds of finding a shiny "Pokemon" character in the previous games is 1 is to 8192. However, it is suspected that the odds of finding a shiny Magicarp in "Pokemon GO" may be different considering that it is the only shiny character for the game so far, and more of which are spawning in line with the "Water Festival" event.

To the uninitiated, a shiny Magikarp is distinct from its non-shiny counterpart. Apart from displaying a light orange or gold color, it sets itself apart from the regular Magikarp because of its shimmering or sparkling effect.

It has been learned that, just because a "Pokemon GO" player is lucky to have a shiny Magikarp, it does not mean that his friend will get one, too, as Niantic has managed to make shiny spawns individualized. While it remains unclear why the studio individualizes the spawning of the shiny "Pokemon Go" characters, Forbes opines that it may be for the purpose of averting spoofers from vacuuming up shiny nests around the globe.

As it remains uncertain whether the shiny Magikarp will still exist after the "Water Festival" event, which will run until March 29, "Pokemon GO" players are advised to take advantage of the event to catch the shiny Pokemon. While there is a possibility for the Magikarp to continue existing even after the event, it is suspected that the number of Magikarp available by then will be significantly lower.

Before catching a shiny Magikarp, though, Slash Gear reports that it is important that a player needs to update his "Pokemon GO" app first. Once the game has been updated, only by then a player can start catching every single Magikarp in the game, whether it is shiny or not.
