'Power Rangers' movie news, release date: Alpha 5, Rita Repulsa images released; is Rita Repulsa the Green Ranger?

(Facebook/PowerRangersMovie)"Power Rangers" will hit theaters on March 24, 2017.

By now, fans already know that Elizabeth Banks is playing Rita Repulsa in the upcoming "Power Rangers" film. And while her new look has been previewed before, two new photos of the villain have been released online.

The two images were released via the movie's official Twitter account and featured Rita Repulsa's full outfit, as well as her weapon of choice: a long, golden staff. However, fans immediately took notice of a small detail that seems to hint at a Green Ranger.

According to Inverse, fans have begun to speculate if Rita was actually the Green Ranger before she turned evil. Another popular theory is that she had killed the Green Ranger, which would explain why she is in possession of the green Power Coin, as seen in one photo.

This theory is further supported by Rita's words in the trailer, explains the publication, wherein she reveals that she has experience in killing Rangers.

Fans already got a look at Rita and the five Rangers that will be featured in the film. However, they haven't seen what the rest of the cast will look like.

IGN exclusively obtained the concept art for Alpha 5, Zordon's robot assistant. The artwork draws inspiration from the original Alpha 5, but has a noticeably darker influence. Bill Hader, who is skilled in voices, will be bringing the robot to life. Hader is known for his stint on "Saturday Night Live," as well as movies like "Trainwreck" and "Inside Out."

Apart from Banks and Hader, Dacre Montgomery will star as Jason Lee Scott/Red Ranger, Naomi Scott as Kimberly Hart/Pink Ranger, RJ Cyler as Billy Cranston/Blue Ranger, Becky G as Trini/Yellow Ranger, and Ludi Lin as Zack Taylor/Black Ranger. Bryan Cranston joins them as the alien mentor Zordon.

In October, fans were treated to a trailer that teases the origin story of all five Rangers, and how they discovered and learned to hone their powers.

"Power Rangers" will premiere in theaters on March 24, 2017.
