'Reign' season 3 episode 1 spoilers: as Mary and Francis increasingly rely on each other, Catherine declares her downfall

Viewers were left with a major cliffhanger at the end of "Reign" season 2: Catherine offered her allegiance to Queen Elizabeth so they could destroy Mary together. How will that affect the lives of her son and his wife and the rest of France? Everybody gets to find out when the historical fantasy returns for a fresh new season.
The CW released a trailer for the season 3 premiere of "Reign" just a few days before it hits the small screen. It boldly declares, "The battle for power reigns on," as Mary, Queen of Scots, reminds her husband Francis (Toby Regbo) that "England is still a threat." Very much so, as Queen of England Elizabeth (Rachel Skarsten) and former Queen of France Catherine (Megan Follows) are already grave threats on their own and even pose a graver threat together. If anyone has any doubt that the two means business, the trailer ends with Catherine telling Elizabeth, "Scotland's Queen will fall."
But while Mary's hold on power is hanging by a thread, fans of the royal show will rejoice in the fact that Francis and Mary seem to have renewed, if not their love, at least their strong ties with each other. In the same promo teaser, Francis assures Mary that he will help her "for as long as [he] can."
The fact that Francis' sickness is back is sure a sad thing for everyone but it bodes well for the royal couple's relationship. They will spend the rest of the season knowing that Francis can die any minute and that every moment together is precious.
But romance does not end with France's king and queen. The Lord Narcisse (Craig Parker)-Catherine-Lola (Anna Popplewell) love triangle is still there. And Greer (Celina Sinden) will find herself flirting with a pirate. Even Queen Elizabeth finds herself in the middle of a romantic triangle with a married couple.
