While Apple seems content with the 1 GB of RAM in its iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, Samsung has indicated that they have plans to equip their next flagship Galaxy S7 model with 6 GB of RAM.

As for the rumored Exynos 8890 chipset, it was spotted recently breezing through Geekbench, getting a single core score of 1409.

Making the announcement on its official blog, Samsungtomorrow, the South Korean manufacturer that started out as a seafood exporter and is now a major force in the smartphone marketplace, stated that it has put the 12 GB LPDDR4 DRAM for mobile devices into production. Also, it indicated that it will find its way into the next generation of flagship devices, which could include the Galaxy S7. This particular LPDDR4 mobile DRAM is based on the 20 nanometer technology and according to Samsung, it will allow a single package of 3 GB using two chips and 6 GB using four chips.

The upcoming 12 GB LPDDR4 can fit in the same space consumed by the 3 GB LPDDR4 packages, which are currently being used by Samsung. In addition, the upcoming 12 GB LPDDR4 DRAM is 30 percent faster than the 8 GB LPDDR4 version and it even consumes 20 percent less energy.

The news about the 6 GB mobile DRAM follows Samsung's use of 4 GB RAM for its latest model in the Note lineup, the Galaxy Note 5 and also in the curved screen Galaxy S6 Edge . Many premium and budget-priced devices from Asus and Xiaomi now also come with 4 GB of RAM, therefore, the shift to 6 GB RAM is unsurprising and is simply just around the corner.

Finally, as for the news of the Exynos 8890 chipset passing through Geekbench, GSMArena stated that even though it is not as fast as the Exynos 7420, it was still able to get impressive scores. It clocked 1409 in single core testing and 4882 in multiple core testing.
