'Scandal' season 6 spoilers: Mellie proves she is a better president than Fitz

Mellie (Bellamy Young) will prove she is going to be a better leader than her ex-husband in the new season of "Scandal."
Predictions that the former senator from Virginia will be the runaway winner in the presidential elections are coming in from the fans. Although the fight for presidency is expected to be tight, speculations claim that Mellie has got this in the bag. Her opponent, Frankie (Ricardo Chavira), the politician backed by Cyrus (Jeff Perry), will put up a good fight, but Olivia's (Kerry Washington) and Fitz's (Tony Goldwyn) support will prove to be too much for the other side.
George Newbern, who plays Charlie in the show, recently revealed his thoughts to Bustle.
"Mellie would definitely bring a lot of different elements to being president, just like Hillary Clinton would probably bring a lot," Newbern says, according to Bustle. The actor then shares: "I'm from the south and I think she has a real sort of sassy, realistic thing. [Fitz]'s very put-together, I think she has a more, very accessible vibe."
Fans of the ABC show will have a long wait, as the new season is expected to air early next year. As per iTech Post, main cast Washington is currently in the final trimester of her pregnancy. She is carrying her second child with husband Nnamdi Asomugha. The showrunners have announced earlier that the actress' pregnancy would not be included in the new storyline. They also hid Washington's baby bump when she was pregnant during the show's second season with her first child.
When the series returns, it is expected that Olivia will do her best to make Mellie win the elections. She also has personal reasons to do so, since Mellie's running mate is Jake (Scott Foley). Last installment, Olivia was pitted against her father for her lover's freedom. The only option that time was to make him a VP candidate. Olivia wants Jake to win so they can get Rowan (Joe Morton) out of their lives.
"Scandal" season 6 is expected to premiere midseason 2017 on ABC.
