Pixel and Nexus devices already received the latest Android OS last Dec. 5. Sony hopes to be able to do the same with its smartphones as the company has always been on schedule when releasing updates. According to reports, the Android 7.0 Nougat was released to Sony's Xperia XZ and Xperia X Performance already and more of their smartphones will receive the same anytime.

However, rumors are also rife that Sony is already working on releasing the Android 7.1.1 OS to its other devices and making it possible for other phones to skip the previous system and go straight to the new one. It is believed that the update will reach Sony's flagship devices first. This means that Xperia XZ and Xperia X Performance will be on top of the list.

Some sources mention that the Xperia Z3 , Xperia Z4 tablet, and Xperia Z5 line of smartphones will soon get their respective updates and it is highly likely that they will get the Android 7.1.1 Nougat. If reports are accurate, Sony Xperia XZ will be the first non-Google smartphone to receive the Android 7.1.1 Nougat.

The Android Nougat update, according to reports, will enable Xperia XZ users to use multiple windows and two applications together. This ability is especially helpful to users who are very mobile or those who need to multitask. In addition to these, users will be able to use a messaging application that allows the sharing of video or audio files easily. Other significant inclusions of the update include an improved security feature and battery backup.

Furthermore, the Android 7.1.1 Nougat on Sony Xperia XZ and the company's other smartphones will let users send GIFs using their keyboards. Moreover, a power menu with a restart option will also be added.
