The Sony Xperia Z3 and the HTC One M9, may look very similar to their predecessors but they are packed with better features that greatly suit every consumers' needs. Here is how these two smartphones fare when compared against each other.

Design

The Xperia Z3 has a metal frame but looks glossier than its predecessor. It uses glass for its back panel and its corners are coated with a protective material to minimize scratches and damage from falls. As for the One M9, it has a metal unibody with rounded edges and is hand polished to a fine shine. The Xperia Z3 comes in black, white, copper and green while the One M9 comes in silver and gold, amber and gold, gunmetal grey and gold and pink. A big difference between the devices is that the Xperia Z3 has an IP68 certification, making it water and dust resistant and can be submerged to up to 1.5 meters of water for 30 minutes.

Display

The displays of both phones are almost similar. The Xperia Z3 comes with an IPS LCD screen, which measures 5.2 inches with a resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels and a density of 424 pixels per inch. The One M9, one the other hand, uses a Super LCD3 screen measuring 5.0 inches with a resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels and a density of 441 pixels per inch.

Specs

The specs of both devices are extremely similar as well. Each uses the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 chipset and is equipped with an octa-core CPU with four Cortex-A53 cores clocked at 1.5 GHz and four Cortex-A57 cores clocked at 2 GHz and an Adreno 430 GPU.

Memory

Both devices also have memory slots, which allows for up to 128 GB of external storage. As for RAM, each has 3 GB.

Camera

The Sony Xperia Z3 and the One M9 are both equipped with a  20 megapixel camera with optical image stabilization.

Battery

The Xperia Z3 wins the battle of batteries as it comes with a 2930 mAh battery. The One M9 is equipped with a 2840 mAh battery.

The HTC One M9 is priced at $199 with a two-year contract and the unlocked Sony Xperia Z3 starts at $850.
