'Supergirl' season 2 episode 12 spoilers: Metallo, Lillian Luthor escape; Lena Luthor is prime suspect

(Facebook/Supergirl)"Supergirl" season 2 episode 12 will feature the escape of Lillian Luthor and Metallo.

After having been imprisoned in "Supergirl" season 2 episode 8, Lillian Luthor (Brenda Strong) will escape from their respective confinements in the upcoming season 2 episode 12 of The CW series.

Just when fans thought that Project CADMUS is done and over with, the Feb. 13 episode of "Supergirl" will feature the escape of Lillian Luthor — thanks to Metallo (John Corben). Because of the incident, the authorities will arrest Lena Luthor as she is suspected for orchestrating the escape of her mother and the Krypton-powered cyborg.

Reports claim, though, that, despite the overwhelming evidence against the involvement of Lena Luthor in the escape of her mother and Metallo, Kara/Supergirl (Melissa Benoist) will still be skeptical about her being the culprit. In fact, the Girl of Steel will even fight in order to ensure that her friend's name will be cleared, and she can be off the hook.

To recall, Lena Luthor tricked her mom in "Supergirl" season 2 episode 8 by making her believe that she supports her Project CADMUS. Without Lillian Luthor's knowledge, Lena switched the isotopes of the Medusa virus before it was released, rendering it ineffective. Additionally, it was also Lena who called the authorities that led to the arrest of her mother.

What Lena Luthor did to her mom made a mark in Supergirl as it is a clear indication that she is against Project CADMUS. Hence, it is understandable why the Girl of Steel is not easily sold to the accusations linking her friend to the escape of Metallo and Lillian Luthor.

Meanwhile, it is expected that Supergirl will face more villains that she already defeated in the past as, after all, the Girl of Steel refuses to kill them. On this week's already concluded episode 10, Supergirl battled Livewire (Brit Morgan) once more. As Livewire eventually disappeared after reaching an agreement with Supergirl, there is still a possibility for the two to face each other one more time in the future episodes.

Before featuring the escape of Metallo and Lillian Luthor, though, "Supergirl" season 2 will first release its episode 11 titled "The Martian Chronicles" on Feb. 6.

"Supergirl" airs over The CW on Mondays at 8 p.m. EST.
