'The Flash' season 2: Who is the person behind Zoom's mask?

(Official "The Flash" Twitter)"Kneel before Zoom," says the promotional material for last Tuesday's "The Flash" episode

It was quite an exciting "The Flash" episode the other night. Some says that it is, by far, the most epic episode of the said DC show to date. And why not, with Zoom proving to be an even eviler version of Harrison Wells? But just who is Zoom? What is under his mask? What powers does he still have under his arsenal?

Back in September, Andrew Kreisberg said they want Zoom (voiced by Tony Todd) to be "The Flash's" answer to Star Wars' Darth Vader. this means they intend to keep him under the mask for as long as possible and keep fans guessing as to his identity. But comic book fans might get a bit smug and lay out clues to his identity based on his comic book identity.

With previous reports that Wally West had been cast (Keiynan Lonsdale will be stepping into the role later in the current season), DC fans cannot help but assume that perhaps TV Zoom is Hunter Zolomon, the very first person to acquire the identity. In the comic books, Zolomon holds a grudge against former friend Wally West for refusing to time travel and alter Gorilla Grodd's attack that left his legs paralysed. There was also a documented confrontation between him and Barry Allen's Flash (Grant Gustin) and Jay Garrick's Flash (Teddy Sears) in "The Flash: Blitz."

While that's all an interesting theory, it is hardly possible for Zolomon to make an appearance right now, especially as his name has not been dropped even once in the establishing DC Extended Universe. Also, he is more Wally West's enemy rather than Barry Allen's, who is turning out to be the new Universe's "main" (and perhaps only) The Flash.

So who could he be? If everyone is to look at the current characters from The CW show, there are some on whom fans can cast their suspicions.

The blue speed energy may be suspiciously associated with Eddie Thawne (Rick Cosnett). Remember when he was sucked into the singularity? Yup, there were plenty of those blue lights swirling around.

But the way Jay and Harry talked about Zoom, it felt like his alter-ego is someone who had been on Earth-Two all this time. In that case, then the Eddie theory will turn out false. Could Harry ALSO be Zoom, much like he was the Reverse Flash on Earth-Two? How that's possible given the Earth-Two Harry is obviously on Earth-One and Zoom is still on Earth-Two holding Harry's daughter is a mystery. But hey, it's a comic-based series and anything is possible.

Then there's that wild theory going on online that maybe — just maybe - Zoom is Henry Allen (John Wesley Shipp). Wild, yes. But some say it's a possible explanation for his abrupt "exit" from Barry life. Also, it easily ties to Kreisberg's earlier declaration that Zoom is a Darth Vader-like villain. Or maybe that's just taking things too literally.

Of course, everything remains a speculation at the moment. The only way to really find out who is under that mask is to of course keep watching the show. "The Flash" debuts new episode on The CW every Tuesday night, 8 p.m.
