'The Game' season 9: end of the road for BET show; Returning star promises 'memorable' final season

The final buzzer has rung for "The Game."

The BET has confirmed that season nine is the popular comedy-drama's swan song.

The show had a strong presence in the three seasons it ran on The CW before the network cancelled it. It was revived by BET where it enjoyed four successful seasons. But despite its success, BET is pulling the plug on "The Game."

In an official statement posted on its website, the network sadly acknowledges that "all good things must come to an end" and that production has already commenced on the final two seasons of the show. The BET also said that the final season would hopefully give "Sabers fans a chance to bid farewell to their favorite players on and off the field."

Despite the sad news, "The Game" is not going down without a fight. The cast and the crew are determined to make their final season count. The original cast is mostly intact but fans are waiting if some old faces will return to make the show's sendoff even more memorable.

One actor who will be back is Rick Fox. The ex-NBA player, who starred in the hit show as himself, was the love interest of Tasha Mack (Wendy Raquel Robinson) for two seasons. He confirmed his return to "The Game" when he spoke with "Hip Hollywood" during the premiere of "Dope" and said that "it will be memorable."

Two stars that fans are hoping will come back are Tia Mowry and Pooch Hall. Reports say that Mowry seems amenable to returning but Hall has been adamant about not returning.

"The Game" revolves around the lives of several pro football players and their partners. As the men focus on being the best in the game, their girlfriends and wives work behind the scenes to ensure that their men have the best agents and endorsements. The series initially focused more on the sport but shifted to the relationships of the players and their significant other.
