'The Red Tent' mini series premiere, release date: Lifetime show to air December 7

Lifetime has tapped the rights to release a television adaptation of Anita Diamant's "The Red Tent" which tells the story of Dinah, Joseph's sister to father Jacob.
The Red Tent, written by Diamant on 1997, is a fictionalized take on the biblical story of Dinah. It uses the first person narrative and tells the story of a red tent where the women of Jacob's tribe seek refuge during the time when they menstruate.
The lead character is played by Rebecca Ferguson, and Oscar nominee, Minnie Driver plays the role of Leah, Dinah's mother. Homeland actress Morena Baccarin plays Jacob's second wife, Rachel. Debra Winger plays Rebecca, Jacob's mother.
The series will coincide with the book and will open with a series of events that led to the rape of Dinah by a Canaanite prince. Dinah's brothers will seek revenge on the prince by killing him and all of his tribes men, with the trauma causing Dinah to flee to Egypt where she becomes a midwife.
In the red tent, stories among women will be shared as they spend time there during their period and childbirth. The women, including Jacob's other wives, Zilpah and Bilhah, dance, sing, and share secrets.
When asked about the reception of her book, Diamant mentions how random people come up to her and praise her book, since it is one of the first books to twist a biblical happening into something fictitious and relatable.
"Actually I've written 13 books, but I always know which one they're talking about," said Diamant over the phone in an interview with The Jewish Journal.
"It's my bestseller — my best bestseller — and I've gotten used to that," added Diamant.
The Red Tent will premiere on December 7 and 8 on Lifetime.
