"Vikings" season 4 continues its excellent run with an episode that hints at more betrayal and treachery in Ragnar's future.

Ragnar's (Travis Fimmel) fate is more or less a foregone conclusion this season, as the actor is reportedly ready to leave the show and focus on his Hollywood career. The question now is how will the Viking king's story end?

Whatever it is that the "Vikings" writers have in store for fans, it's clear that the foundation is slowly being laid out. A synopsis for episode 5, teases that "betrayal is in the air at the court in Paris and Wessex" as Odo's (Owen Roe) hold wanes and Ecbert (Linus Roache) throws his support behind Kwenthrith (Amy Bailey) in Mercia. On the home front, Ragnar might have found a new confidante in Yidu (Dianne Doan), as he reveals to her his deepest secret. Meanwhile, Lagertha (Katheryn Winnick) and Kalf's (Ben Robson) union might soon be blessed with a child.

Teaser clips for the upcoming episode, "Promise," shows very little of Ragnar but hints at several characters starting to make a play for more power. One trailer starts with Halfdan seemingly inciting the other Vikings by declaring that they are "the masters now." Ragnar simply looks on while the others shout their agreement. Lagertha is seen in the midst of battle. She might be pregnant but she's still very capable of fighting off invaders, especially as the Christian king is encouraging a full scale invasion. Meanwhile, Rollo (Clive Standen) tells someone that everything will be decided once his brother returns and a freed Floki (Gustaf Skarsgard) toasts to new friendships.

While Rollo aligning himself with the French king is known, a short clip teases a new and different alliance - that of Floki and Aslaug (Alyssa Sutherland). In the teaser, Floki and wife are invited by several Vikings to join them at their table. The men ask why he and Ragnar had a falling out when he was the one who designed and built Ragnar's ships. Floki simply tells them it was because he "killed his pet Christian." While they toast him, Floki and wife looks across the room and sees Aslaug toast them as well.

It's clear that Ragnar and Floki's friendship is not what it used to be, but will the ship builder betray his friend once more by forging an alliance with Queen Aslaug?

Ragnar's wife obviously wants more power and is willing to do whatever it takes to get it. She has already hinted to King Harald Finehair (Peter Franzen ) in episode 4 that he has to overthrow Ragnar if he wants to be the king of Norway.

Fans should keep watching to see how this will all play out.

"Vikings" season 4 will return to the History channel with a new episode on March 17.
