'Vikings' season 4 spoilers: King Ecbert to secure the Mercia crown in episode 7

(Vikings / Facebook)Vikings season 4

The History Channel has recently released its synopsis for episode 7 of "Vikings" season 4, and the plot is becoming more and more exciting and action-packed. Entitled "The Profit and the Loss," the next episode will show King Ecbert (Linus Roache) trying to secure the Mercia crown.

In the last episode, Ecbert persuaded Aethelwulf (Moe Dunford) and Alfred to go on a pilgrimage to Rome. The pilgrimage will reportedly take months, leaving Kwenthrith and Mercia unprotected and making it easier for Ecbert to set his plans into motion.

Ragnar (Travis Fimmel), on the other hand, did not lose heart despite the setbacks they suffered because of the storm they met on the way to Paris. During the Thing in Kattegat, he suggested that they would leave again to raid Paris.

The preview shows Ragnar trying to persuade the others, saying that they "have waited three days for a plan of attack" for Paris and demands for a decision.

In the last episode, Rollo (Clive Standen) tried to assure the Emperor (Lothaire Bluteau) that his loyalty is with France. That came as a comfort since the Frankish king was flustered after seeing what King Harald (Peter Franzen) did to the Franks they captured. That really showed their foes how strong and relentless the Vikings are.

Rollo promised his allegiance to the king and has prepared for the attack of his brother. There are speculations, however, that Rollo might change his mind once he sees his brother again. He might come to his senses knowing how Ragnar saved his neck from death twice already.

If the face-off will indeed happen, the ensuing battle can cause heavy casualties on both sides. There's also the hanging question of whether Ragnar will die in Rollo's hand or the show will follow the history books regarding the death of Ragnar.

Episode 7 of the "Vikings" will be aired on Thursday, March 31 at 10 p.m. EST on the History Channel.
