"Wayward Pines" season 2 has returned to the small screen with a shocking premiere episode. But will the newly re-animated surgeon Theo Yedlin and the rebellious Ben Burke survive for long now that they've been forced outside the town's walls?

The surprise hit series returned with new characters, a new town leader, and a seemingly rehashed storyline. The premiere episode of "Wayward Pines" season 2 was strangely reminiscent of the previous season's beginnings, with a disoriented Theo (Jason Patric) taken out of stasis to perform surgery on the wounded Kate (Carla Gugino). The good doctor is soon exposed to this strange new world where a revolution seems to be fomenting and executions are held in public.

While the premiere feels familiar, the succeeding episodes promise to cover new grounds. Episode 2, "Blood Harvest," will find Theo trying to get a handle on his new life in "Wayward Pines." The good doctor will use his status as the only surgeon in town as leverage to get answers from First Generation Leader Jason Higgins (Tom Stevens).

Djimon Housou will finally be making an appearance in episode 2 as well. The actor will play CJ Mitchum, the town's historian and one of its original residents. The still mysterious Mitchum has an extensive knowledge of "Wayward Pines'" complex origins and is someone who can act as a unique bridge between the new world and the old.

A trailer for the upcoming episode hints at a longer look at the Aberrations. As the clip starts, the abbies are seen running. They might have been headed to Ben (Charlie Tahan) and Theo as the next scene shows the young rebel telling his companion that they have to move. As expected, his companion is reluctant to leave the relative safety of the car. But that might soon change as they're soon besieged by abbies who are trying to break in. As the abbies are shown scaling the walls and jumping inside the town, Higgins says that "it's time to push back" and soldiers are soon shooting at the intruders.

Megan Fisher (Hope Davis) is then shown handling a class where she teaches the students that the only good abbie is a dead one. She then reveals the body of a dead abbie to her students. Its deformed face and large teeth understandably shock them. Ben is then seen making what he says could be his final transmission, which is seen by Jason and the other First Generation leaders. Teresa Burke (Shannyn Sossamon) is then seen demanding that they try to help him because he might still be alive. The clip ends with Ben in a cornfield, trying to quietly make his way, but the abbies suddenly descend on him. Could this be the end of Ethan Burke's son?

Episode 2 of "Wayward Pines" season 2 will be aired on Fox on June 1 at 9 p.m.
