'Attack on Titan' season 2 air date, spoilers: Chief Erwin Smith to die; Eren's powers explored

(Shingeki TV)"Attack on Titan" season 2 will premiere in 2017.

"Attack on Titan" season 2 will premiere in 2017, but fans are already gearing up for more action and excitement. Fans should also ready their tissues as one of their favorites will be missed. It is believed that the second season of the Japanese anime series will see Chief Erwin Smith perish at the hands of the Titans.

According to reports, Chief Erwin Smith will die in a battle against the Titans. Fans all know how loyal the commander is as he is willing to sacrifice himself for the greater good. This much was demonstrated back in season 1 when Erwin gave up his left arm, in order to save Eren. It surely does not come as a surprise that he would die for his troops, but losing such a great character will undoubtedly put tears to the eyes of many.

His death will not be without effect, though. It is believed that Levi will be greatly affected by the loss and it will cause him to seek vengeance against the massive Titans. Levi is going to tap into that rage and go on a Titan killing spree to avenge the death of the commander.

Apart from that, it is also expected that the second season will explore the cause of Eren's transformation powers as well. The first season saw Eren's father inject his son with some sort of serum before letting himself get devoured. This serum gave Eren the ability to turn into a Titan. But the reasoning behind it has always been shrouded in mystery. Thus, the next installment is expected to delve more into that part of the story and shed some light on how it works.

The Titans are going to continue to wreak havoc. And the revelation of Titans within the walls of the city, as well as the introduction of new Titans, is going to drive an interesting plot point.

"Attack on Titans" season 2 will air next year.
