Dance Mom season 5 spoilers, news: Maddie Ziegler and Kalani sent out for solo numbers; ALDC in rematch with MDP

'Dance Moms' season five returns this week with an episode entitled "Maddie vs. Kalani". In this episode, head dance teacher Abby seeks to avenge a previous defeat against rival dance team the Murrieta Dance Project as she fields her strongest performers Maddie and Kalani in separate solo numbers. The full synopsis, as per this page at the Dance Moms official site, is as follows:
"Determined to have a victory in their first week back in LA, the ALDC faces the Murrieta Dance Project again, the team that won with a perfect score and sent Abby in a downward spiral of negativity. Putting her best foot forward, Abby gives solos to her two strongest dancers, Maddie and Kalani. Kalani is hungry for a win and she is feeling the pressure to beat not only Maddie but MDP as well. Sparks fly between Jill and Holly when Nia is left out of a show biz opportunity which puts a strain on the team as they try to master an edgy rose garden themed contemporary routine."
In addition to the synopsis, a short thirty second preview clip from the previous episode reveals tension once again bubbling to the surface as the Dance Moms argue amongst themselves. Other clips also show the girls in various stages of practice as they rehearse for their dance rematch against MDP.
Meanwhile, spoilers for the dance competition itself has already been posted online. The competition was held at the World-Class Talent Experience Invitational in California last January 31 earlier this year. The ALDC placed first in the Junior Small Group and first overall while MDP placed second in Juniors and third overall.
As for the solo competition, Kalani placed first in the Teen division and second overall with a dance called "Innocent". Maddie, on the other hand, performed "Dreams Come True" and placed first in the Juniors and first place overall.
