GoPro Hero 5 release date may be pushed back to October

GoPro Hero 5 could arrive to refresh the lineup in October

Many action enthusiasts are expecting the GoPro Hero 5 to arrive soon and bring with it new features, but as the year kicked off, news that it could be delayed until the second half of the year started to spread. Recently, it was also rumored that GoPro might be planning to release it along with the upcoming drone, the Karma.

Rumors have been swirling about the GoPro Hero 5 for some time now and the most recent one pertained to its release. Reporting on it, BidnessEtc points out that it indicates that the GoPro Hero 5 will only arrive in October when the Karma drone is ready to release.

Last year, all indications were pointing towards GoPro releasing the Hero 5 before the end of 2015 but as the year ended, the company outlined how it was working on a Karma drone. Importantly, the drone is the first that the company has ever produced, and when it was announced along with a video shot with its camera, it kicked up a lot of anticipation in the industry and market.

However, since the Karma drone was announced in December 2015, very little information about it has been released. At the beginning of this year, Nick Woodman, the head of GoPro, told Engadget that the drone would be backwards compatible with all the cameras in its lineup. This left many with the understanding that there wouldn't be a camera built in the drone. Many reacted positively to the news as anyone with a GoPro camera would be able to place it within the drone and use it.

As for the Hero 5, it is expected that GoPro will delay its launch to refine its features and that it will come with 8K video recording facility. However, at this high resolution, GoPro will have to ensure that the device has enough of battery power to last through a recording session.
