'GTA 6' release news: Rumored locations include Tokyo, London and all maps from previous games combined

The 2016 Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) has come and gone and still there wasn't an announcement regarding the development of the hotly anticipated action-adventure game "Grand Theft Auto VI."

Rockstar Games has kept mum about updates on "Grand Theft Auto VI" and there wasn't even the slightest confirmation that the game is under development. The game studio was more focused on the new downloadable content for "Grand Theft Auto V" and fans were left disappointed with the lack of news on its sequel.

Despite this, rumors about the game continue to swirl, particularly about the maps involved. According to recent reports, "Grand Theft Auto VI" could feature the map of London, which should be a fresh sight. Previous installments of the game have always featured the map of the United States, so an English setting should be refreshing for all players.

Going outside the U.S. is nothing new when it comes to "GTA" rumors. Previously, there have been reports that the game will also be taken to the streets of Tokyo, Japan. More interestingly, a report from Neurogadget states that Rockstar might even combine all the maps from the previous games in the series and feature it altogether in one massive environment for the sequel.

An "outside of the U.S." location may be interesting and it's what fans have been wanting from the franchise. It won't even be the first time that a London setting will be featured. Back in the 90's, there were "GTA: London, 1969" and "GTA: London, 1961." However, producer Dan Houser, in an interview with the Guardian in 2013, confirmed that the "GTA" franchise is America.

A game set in London is possible but it won't be "GTA" he said. "'These days I think we would love to set a game in the UK, set in London, whatever, but I don't know if it would be a GTA game," Houser told the publication. "I think there are plenty of great stories we could tell about the UK, great environments to showcase, great gameplay mechanics that could have a UK bent to them – I just don't think it would be a GTA necessarily."
