The announcement of the official cast of "Independence Day: Resurgence" has been met with massive excitement. While it was disappointing to learn that Will Smith will not reprise his role in the film that arguably launched his movie career, it seems like the new stars and the old celebrities that have signed on for the sequel are doing fine without him.

"Independence Day 2," which was first announced to be greenlighted in November of last year, is a "science-fiction disaster" directed and written by Roland Emmerich. The upcoming movie is a sequel to the 1996 blockbuster "Independence Day" and would be set 20 years after the events of the original title.

While the first movie ended with the aliens dead and defeated, it seems like before their destruction, they sent a distress signal and humanity is again faced with the threat of alien invasion.

Recently, it was confirmed that some actors from the original would be returning to reprise their roles for "Independence Day: Resurgence." Jeff Goldblum, Bill Pullman and Vivica A. Fox have announced their involvement much to the excitement of the fans who have waited 16 years for the sequel.

Aside from the seasoned actors, new faces would also be featured in the film. Amongst the latest crop of "Independence Day" cast are Liam Hemsworth, Sela Ward and Maika Monroe.

It is understandable how people were apprehensive about how the relationship of the new and the old cast would affect the quality of the movie as a whole. Thankfully, it seems like the actors working in the set of "Independence Day: Resurgence" are nothing but buddies.

On his instagram page, Goldblum posted an awesome picture of him photobombed by Liam Hemswoth which was captioned, "So there I was thinking about how I would save mankind when this guy photobombs me. Oh, why hello Facebook, nice to finally meet you."

Hemsworth also updated his instagram with the same picture. "Having a blast filming... with this legend," he captioned his photo.

"Independence Day: Resurgence" is set to be released on June 24, 2016.
