Apple finally unveiled the iPad Mini 4 a few days ago, and fans were surprised by the changes they made to the tablet. For tablet buyers who cannot decide on which iPad Mini to purchase, here is how the two compare.

Design

The iPad Mini 4 comes with a metal unibody, which is pretty similar to its predecessor. However, it is thinner, lighter and taller. There is a fingerprint scanner integrated into the home button and it comes in three colors, space gray, gold and silver. There is a similar fingerprint scanner on the iPad Mini 3 and it also offered in the same colors.

Display

The displays of both these devices are similar and each has an IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen measuring 7.9 inches with a resolution of 1536 x 2048 pixels and a density of 324 pixels per inch. However, in addition to the oleophobic coating that both devices have, the iPad Mini 4 features glass that is resistant to scratches.

Specs

Coming to hardware, the iPad Mini 3 has an Apple A7 chipset, a CPU with two cores clocked at 1.3 GHz and a PowerVR G6430 GPU. As for the iPad Mini 4, it has a better A8 chipset and a CPU with two cores clocked at 1.5 GHz.

Memory

There is no memory slot on either device, therefore external storage cannot be added. In terms of RAM, the iPad Mini 3 comes with 1 GB and the iPad Mini 4 appears to have the same RAM capacity.

Camera

The cameras on the iPad Mini 3 include a 1.2 MP FaceTime camera and a 5 MP rear camera. As for the iPad Mini 4, it has a 1.2 MP FaceTime camera and an 8 MP iSight camera.

Battery

There is a 6470 mAh battery on the iPad Mini 3, which provides up to 10 hours of talk time. The iPad Mini 4 might come with the same battery capacity.

Price

The iPad Mini 3 and the iPad Mini 4 have similar starting price tags of $399 each.
