Based on the novel by Tim LaHaye and Jerry B. Jenkins of the same title, 'Left Behind' is the latest post-apocalyptic drama to hit the silver screen. Opted to be a reboot of the movie titled 'Left Behind: The Movie,' the movie stars Nicholas Cage, One Tree Hill's Chad Michael Murray and Jordin Sparks.

The movie tells the story about "The Rapture" and the people's panicked reactions towards it.

Cage plays pilot Rayford Steele who flies a plane that's left in the air since every possible landing area just disappeared. Murray plays journalist Cameron 'Buck' Williams, also inside Steele's plane, whose sole purpose is to understand and uncover what's "really going on."

After its premiere, the Left Behind gained poor critical acclaim, with critics saying that it could have been saved since it's the second chance for the film to make its mark in the box office.

Marcus Goh of Yahoo News highlighted how the dialogue and acting was sloppy.

"It's handled in a dull and clumsy way - the characters don't even pretend to be interested in the exposition, and seem more in a rush to tell the audience all these things about themselves than to actually push the plot forward," writes Goh in his review.

Rembert Brown of Grantland says that the movie failed to deliver its initial and most important aspect: the concept of Rapture by showing how everything suddenly "disappeared."

"That's the thing that the film messed up. They messed up the Rapture. The most important aspect of this film, they messed up," Brown writes in the Grantland piece.
